A flood of names fills the Huron item with residents and visitors from Aber Voorhees Hitch Miller Yankton Hitchcock and Lake Okoboji. It notes travel, visits, business trips, and upcoming social events including an Armory Hall gathering and a St Martin’s church lawn at home social.
Special dispatch reports Valparaiso Chile struck by a strong earthquake causing widespread damage. Practically every building was damaged and fires raged as hundreds of inhabitants were killed or seriously injured and buried beneath rubble.
Articles of incorporation were filed in Pierre for a new 600 mile standard gauge railway from Sioux City to Pierre with potential Minneapolis branch offices and a main office in Huron. The line may connect Sioux Falls and extend to Minneapolis with a project cost around 50 million dollars and directors from Minneapolis and the city.

Dr W J Class a Chicago board of health member and scarlet fever germ discoverer died at Mercy hospital at age 32. A Bush medical college graduate he studied in Vienna and Dresden and worked on anti toxin treatments for scarlet fever. He leaves a wife and brother Dr F L Class who planned to continue his work.
The South Dakota Golf Association held its annual state tournament at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls. Martin Thompson defeated W. L. Baker one up to win the state championship, while A. B. Fairbank won the consolation match. Sioux Falls won the Spaulding team trophy by 234 points over Huron, with teams listed and officers elected for the next year.
Sanford Dodge and his troupe entertained a good crowd with the outdoors production of Ingomar despite poor scenery and bad weather. Dodge impressed with a powerful voice and strong acting, supported by a capable company including Miss Marshall in the leading role.
