Charley Brown Dead After Typhoid Struggle
Charley Brown died at about 12 45 PM Monday after a twenty one day battle with typhoid fever. Born May 30 1869 in McLean County Illinois he moved to this state in youth. He married Martha Brandmire September 24 1890 and left three children Lily Blanche and Frank. He worked in railroading rising from brakeman to conductor and belonged to the Maccabee lodge and United Order of Railway Conductors. His wife three children his parents and four brothers R H Andrew W M F and George A were at his bedside.

Manitou Hero Leo Loeb Recounts Mountain Flood Rescue
The 1902 disaster near Manitou Colorado saw Leo L Loeb ride toward a flood to save about two thousand townspeople. He rode eight miles toward the village before plunging down a hundred foot precipice and surviving with crippling paralysis from injuries.
