Finnegan built a steady rhythm as steel rails thirty feet long and 56 pounds per yard clicked together, ties were laid by the tie gang under B. F. Kindergar, averaging 2 640 ties per mile, totaling 17 723 feet of new track.
Turning a grindstone crank and wager, Christe Wall and his liners prepared the track for a steel laden train. They laid 58 cars of ties and 18 cars of steel, the fastest one iron car track laying yet, with Hurley residents proud of the achievement tied to the division's chief engineer.
