The Dingley tariff bill debate in the House is nearing closure with amendments open until 1 p.m. Wednesday and voting set for 8 p.m. Four Louisiana and Texas Democrats, plus a probable Populist and silverite, may break ranks to support the bill. Mr. Dingley will push for rapid passage despite Democratic attacks on individual items.
Wasurindtos March 30 Republican members of the ways and means committee sat for hours debating amendments to the pendue tariff bill. Several amendments were approved unanimously and will be sent to the House by Mr Dingley before Wednesday's vote.
The Iowa will leave camps shipyard for an official trial off the New England coast then proceed to the Brooklyn navy yard. Workmen will scrape the hull and apply a fresh coat of paint. The ship is slated to depart for Boston next Saturday, with arrangements to follow Monday and Tuesday and the official trip set for Wednesday.

A 24 foot fly wheel burst at Carnegie's Edgar Thompson Steel works in PottspurG around midnight. Workman David Hugo was killed and George Snyder seriously injured. The plant suffered heavy damage and the entire works closed for repairs.

The supreme council with offices in Indianapolis has filed a deed of assignment for the benefit of general creditors. Assets are expected not to exceed 35000 dollars while total liabilities to certificate holders will reach and probably exceed 72000 dollars, covering 15 states.
Lincoln Nebraska March 27 The Free Silver Republican party of Nebraska was launched in the afternoon with about 40 delegates present. A state central committee was formed with L C Pace and W B Price of Lincoln as chairman and secretary respectively.
The Minnesota grand lodge met in St Paul on March 26 and voted by a large majority to retain the old level assessments scheme rather than adopt the graded assessment plan urged by the supreme lodge last year. Elected officers include Grand master workman Charles G. In Kenosha Wisconsin on March 26 physicians report Edna Bain twelve years old daughter of John P Bain of Pleasant Prairie has slept for over a week despite normal health indicators. She fell asleep suddenly and remains unarousable though breathing is natural and she appears flushed and healthy.
After a bitter debate the Manitoba legislature ratified the settlement of the Roman Catholic parochial school question under the Laurier Greenway amendments. The bill was read a third time and awaits the pope’s envoy arrival to confirm Manitoba’s settlement.
New York March 26 The World reports attorney John F McIntyre sent a memorial to Secretary of State Sherman on behalf of Edward J Ivory a Harlem saloonkeeper. Ivory was arrested in Glasgow on September 13 on a conspiracy to destroy public buildings charge and was acquitted after almost five months in Holloway jail. The filing seeks 20000 pounds in damages from the British government.
Des Moines March 26. In the senate the bill governing the practice of medicine was passed with amendments including a prohibitive tax of 250 dollars a year on itinerant doctors and a section banning osteopathy in the state. All applicants must pass an examination before commencing practice. The house also passed the mines and mining bill.
A Berlin dispatch to The Times reports widespread dissatisfaction following the Kaiser’s reply to a student deputation. He urged that carpings and grumbling among the people should cease, delivered amid low torchlight procession tensions.
