Stockholders Lose All Their Savings in Defunct Eureka Loan

Stockholders of the defunct Eureka Loan and Building Association face total losses totaling about 117,000 as bonds are scaled down to 2 or 4 percent of face value. The decree, issued by Special Judge H. C. Hervey in Wheeling, classifies bondholders at first class and stockholders in the second. Aggregate bondholder claims are fixed at 89,094.70 on 120,000 face value. common indebtedness about 15,000. If property sales yield little, stockholders could lose all, with A. Lawson receiving a 10 percent receiver’s commission and appeals planned to the state supreme court.

East Clarksburns Industrial advances with school house plan

Clarkesburg area plans a new four room brick school building costing about 15000 dollars to open the fall term. The East Clarksburns Industrial area also gains a Baptist church and a Presbyterian chapel on newly acquired lots. Industrial water and new Tuna gas factory promise growth with 100 residences and eight factories nearby.

A Presbyterian Brotherhood meeting is scheduled at the First Presbyterian Church Friday at 8 o clock. Topics include whether to be fossils or forces. It may be the last meeting. All members are urged to attend and any man is welcome.

Mrs Griffith Recovering After Appendectomy in Hospital

Mrs Griffith is recuperating at St Marys hospital from an appendectomy. She has been hospitalized two weeks and underwent surgery. Her friends are glad she will likely go home in a few days.

McKinley Widow Mrs McKinley Struck By Stroke

Canton May 23 Mrs McKinley widow of the murdered president suffered a stroke of paralysis this morning and was reported unconscious. A surgeon general in Washington was asked to come and a consultation of local physicians was held to decide on treatment.

Reverend Fortney Dies in Fairmont Obituary

The Rev. William Fortney of Fairmont died Wednesday at his home at 81. A native of Harrison County, he was married three times and leaves several children including Mrs. Rasin Robinson of Kansas, T. M. Fortney of Festus, Marion County, A. C. Fortney of Shinnston, Mrs. G. B. Tetrick of Enterprise, and I. Fortney of Fairmont. The funeral was held Thursday at 2:20 p.m. in Shinnston at the Christian church, with Rev. Bates of Fairmont presiding and assisted by Rev. W. M. Long and Rev. A. Welty.

Theatergoers in Fairmont will attend a Saturday performance of David Belasco's The Girl of the Golden West on May 1 1925. The Belasco company returns after a two year run at the Belasco Theatre New York and will bring the same production to Clarkabore. Special cars will bring Fairmont patrons to the show after the engagement.

Murder Trial in Kentucky Jury Verdict and Next Trials

In EASINGTON Kentucky on May 28 the jury returned a verdict of not guilty for Judge Jaimek Hargis in the murder case of James Cockrell. Hargis and co defendants Alex and Elbert Hargis and Edward Callahan face later trials for conspiracy to murder Cockrell. Next up is the trial of Hargis and others for the alleged murder of Cox Will be called in Sandy Hook, Bilfort County.

Teachers Examination Opens With Sixty Applicants

The first teachers examination of the year begins in the central school building with sixty applicants. Enrollment delays from the State superintendent’s office delayed a full list. County Superintendent L W Ogden Frank White and C Guy Munger guide the session assisted by Cyrus J Webb. English history geography orthography grammar physiology hygiene and general history are on today’s papers. The exam continues tomorrow and will be graded in Charleston after which certificates are issued.

The Young Man's Advanced Thought Club will host a grand reception at Reed's Hall on West Price Street Monday evening honoring Water Street High School graduates.
