Mrs Milda Leichner swallowed about an ounce of carbolic acid at her Mechanic Street home around 11 Friday morning. She became unconscious and vomiting, three physicians treated her with little effect. her condition improved slightly but remained critical.
Following a visit by Hon. AL Lewis secretary of the Virginia Commission the central school building hosts an exhibit from Clarksburg schools. Four volumes of manuscripts sketches maps drawings and student work are on display until April 1 then may be shipped to Jamestown. Superintendent Prof. Burdette invites all patrons and visitors to view the exhibit.
The funeral for George W. Wolfe, who died at West Milford, was held at 10 o clock this morning at his residence and interment followed in the Odé Fellows Cemetery. A large number of friends attended the services.
Mrs Ruth Jones Peck widow of Charles Peck died at her home at the old fair grounds at 10 50 Friday morning from enreme poison. She was 68. Born in Marion county she came here early and is survived by a brother Robert Jones of Monongah and a son Frank Peck of the Telegram office. Funeral at 2 30 Sunday at the home with interment in Oda Fellows cemetery.
The jury returned a verdict of assault and battery in the George M. Frush case. The alleged incident involved Magel May Siussat Fowler on October 8. Punishment could be up to one year in jail and a fine.
Two women Gertrude Moneypenny and Winnie Nye and three men Dallas Lipscomb W Harris and James Harriston were jailed by Constables Art Waldo and J B Kidd after a Friday morning roundup on Pinnickinnick Fill. They await a hearing before Magistrate Gordon on charges of unlawfully consorting together following a drunken disturbance with a mixed crowd near the bill Thursday night.
After the Tuesday Grafton election approved licenses, applicants seek city council approval with petitions signed by freeholders. Notice must be published thirty days before granting. Saloons may remain open through May 1 under the current law.
The New York State Supreme Court ruled on the Pickens will interpretation involving clauses for trusts to descendants and grandchildren. The decision centered on whether Dover Pickens held a defeasible estate with limited remainder and how the land passes on deaths before heirs reach adulthood or bear children. The court held that Dover Pickens took a defeasible estate in the tract with limitations that affect subsequent heirs and distributions.
Justice Fitzgerald opened court and dismissed the Thaw Jury until next Wednesday morning. The defense was given until tomorrow afternoon to file affidavits, while District Attorney Jerome has Monday to respond to the show cause. The Thaw family appeared in court, and Thaw seemed surprised and delighted after being excluded during testimony.

The body of Mrs Lulu MeIntyre was taken from her Alta Vista home to Marwood for burial Friday morning. Funeral services were held Thursday evening at the late home conducted by Rev L W Sifferd of the Lutheran church where she was a member.
The American consul at Managua informs the State Department that Nicuraguans detest the Salvadoran Honduran force near Namis uae after a violent daylong battle. The Salvadoran Honduran side suffered heavy losses and many killed.
Judge Charles W. Lynch denied reductions sought by the Parkersburg branch of the Baltimore & Ohio system and affiliated lines, affirming the Board of Public Works assessments. An appeal was granted. Assessed values listed for Monongahela River, WVa & Pittsburgh, Short Line, and Parkersburg branch.
Manager Huling and Messers Hoge and Welch of the Clarksburg base ball association in the Western Pennsylvania league have added five players to the current tryout, joining twenty two signed previously. New recruits include George P. Reed of Cumpertuna a pitcher, Cli Haley of Kenton a catcher, Boyd C. Schaffer of Bloomsburg a shortstop, Ben Osbor of Cincinnati a left handed pitcher, and Wardman of Cincinnati an infielder. The club aims to secure a strong roster for the season.
Prof Ed mund Neil of West Virginia University Morgantown will speak at the Waldo hotel tonight at 8 o clock. Admission is fifty cents for the Lexiconian Literary Society event raising funds for the society and literary research.
A new model steam laundry by Slayton and Bryan opens in the Jamieson building on West Pike Street, featuring the latest machinery and a large rear mechanical room. A Telegram representative praised the plant for its equipment, organization, and management, with twenty one workers and plans to expand.
Two men, Fred Pierson and William Jackson, faced police court for disturbing the peace while intoxicated in the streets. Pierson, previously before the mayor, paid part of a fine but could not. he was sent to jail for five days. Jackson paid a $2 fine plus costs and was jailed for three days in default. A separate forfeiture involved John Johnson for not appearing. Also mentions Wirt Stuck visiting Douglass Smith, who remains ill.
David Caste Walls Unitrt & Freight worker died when struck by a freight train on West Pike Street near the Baltimore Ohio line. Several companions drank earlier. witnesses say he was intoxicated. Remains sent to Grafton for burial with services planned in this city Saturday afternoon. He leaves a widow and children. other relatives live in Oregon and Massachusetts. Local authorities have not announced any action.
Monongah policemen William Findler and C F Stavary were held on $1000 bail by Justice Amos in Fairmont for appearance before the next grand jury over the death of Field Tarpley. Ruckman Howsov and D C Dean were Shater’s men, Clarence Carey posted no surety for Findler. Phone notice followed a warrant. Associated Press report.
Reverend W. J. Hubbard appeals in Clarksburg for support to the West Virginia Children’s Home Society formed in 1894. The society provides homes for orphans and homeless children, relying on private funds and state support, with Hubbard inviting donations via an addressed envelope at Clarksburg post.
