The mayor warned gamblers and operators that gambling houses will be shut down by midnight with heavy fines and up to thirty days in jail. He stressed enforcing city ordinances and cleaning streets of objectionable characters as he seeks better conditions this year and directs officials to act on the gambling order. Public interest will follow the order’s enforcement.
The soldiers monument fund in the courthouse yard is expanding with new subscriptions. Lucy Vincent MB Curkendall Pike News Co and Watts Lambert Co each contributed. Shinnston donors gave 10.25 while Charles Smiley added 25.00 bringing reported totals to five hundred forty five dollars and 681,069.95 in some figures. Messrs Grege and Swager plan a special matinee and night show of moving pictures and illustrated songs on Tuesday July 2 to raise funds for the monument. Tickets cost twenty five cents and each show lasts about two tours and a half.
On complaint by Mary Cohen Zig mond Valayochs a Pianickinotch miner was arrested Friday evening by Constable Shrader and jailed in the county jail. He was charged with acting in a disorderly manner. He posted bond Saturday morning in Squire Gordons court for appearance but later pleaded to the charge and was fined ten dollars, paid in coins.
Officials invite West Virginia citizens to attend the Sacramento gathering on September 27 to discuss irrigation forestry water conservation and national policy. Governors office seeks willing delegates who can attend at their own expense and participate in proceedings.
A city crowd of professionals, businessmen and students attacked the "Git of Tongues" religious camp outside the city with squirt guns filled with diluted sulfuric acid. More than 300 worshippers dispersed. Camp run by Rev. Lavi Lupton. Lupton severely burned. Two doctors treated him. no arrests.
A 28 member Italian band directed by Alfred Stifano will present its first public appearance with 48 rehearsals completed for an open air concert set for July 4. The ensemble aims to showcase local musical talent and crowd appeal.
Benjamin F. Shuttleworth Sr a longtime Clarksburg business leader died at his Wet Main Street home at 2 40 pm after a lengthy illness. He helped found Clarksburg gas works and the electric company and served as director of the Clarksburg Industrial Company and banks. Born October 1821 near Lang's Sills he moved to Clarksburg as a child and started in business at RomIlne Mills before opening a general merchandise store in 1856 with his brother N A Shuttleworth. Seven of his eight children survive, including Gorrey W Shuttleworth J W Vandervort in Parkersburg Mrs J J Miller in Clarksburg, Frank Robert Dr William M deceased and Dr B F Shuttleworth of Clarksburg. He was a delegate to Wheeling constitutional conventions, served as justice of the peace, and was a lifelong Methodist. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Judge Nathan Gosreetor of Clarksburg urges water supply improvements and low taxes to attract capital, while supporting local manufacture. The Board of Trade meeting in the court house featured remarks by Judge Gosre and various business leaders urging industrial growth and wider membership.

C H Brown of the Nixon and Zimmerman company, from New York, is in Clarksburg to discuss leasing a new opera house. There is growing talk of building a theater here, aiming to attract fifty to sixty similar houses regionally. Brown plans to secure a suitable local venue to stage productions, bridging gaps to Cumberland and Parkersburg, with talks ongoing among theater owners and potential investors.
Italian barber Joan Bell after vermouth fueled a car on a Rock Island train near Goodland Kansas killing four and mortally wounding a Mrs Morris Olsen with other injuries.
