Whitaker Confesses Self Defense in Union Park Shooting
Arthur Whitaker, colored, confesses he shot Morris Hampton and Ada Brown at Union Park last evening. Deputies captured him near the tin plate mill early this morning. Hampton, initially thought fatally injured, may recover. he was wounded through the body left arm and left ear. Brown was struck in the hip but not seriously hurt. Family quarrel suspected. Whitaker was quick on the draw. Sheriff Stout and deputies secured the area for hours before the arrest. Funeral services for the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Gordon Whitaker of Rosebud were held at their Rosebud home, burial in Rosebud cemetery. the child died Wednesday from jaundice.
