Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Purbee hosted a social gathering at their Clay Street home on Tuesday evening. The event featured a cordial, hospitable atmosphere with a large guest list including Mr. and Mrs. Crile Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tord May and Mrs. Will Gay J and many others. A seasonable hour brought a delicious Tunolivan wax sory to the guests.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Goff M. B. Church reveals a new method to increase usefulness of its flourishing organization. Starting Thursday afternoon, a series of informal sessions will be held. the first at Mrs. Willie V. Stone's home, 155 West Main Street. All ladies and friends invited with a silver offering. Meetings will be bi weekly at the church.
A dance event is announced for Friday night at the Traders venue with Prof. Rok providing the entertainment. Crews by Cneme orlwstee will supply dancers, presenting a lively program in good form.
Company K led by Acting Captain Cuthbert A Osborne left the city on the 10th train Wednesday morning to attend General Clarenos J Smith's funeral and serve in the military escort. They wore blue uniforms with full accoutrements, presenting a fine but modest showing. At Shilington the company was joined by the First Regiment band, ordered for the funeral.

Washington February 8 The Senate and House in joint session canvassed the vote for president and vice president. First votes were read. Missouri drew strong applause from Republicans. Tellers reported Roosevelt and Fairbanks with 39 votes and Parker and Davis with 140. President pro tem Frye declared Roosevelt elected president and Fairbanks vice president. The joint convention then dissolved.
Large crowd attended the funeral of General Clarence Smith in Fairmont West Virginia. Private services followed at 1 30 with Rev J J Smens Roy W T eddy and Rev A M Buchanan officiating. Public services at 2 20 at the M P temple featured a military procession and participation by First regiment companies from Fairmont Clarksburg and Morgantown. State guards, Masons, and T O C BP attended. floral tributes filled the casket as Mrs Menning Bibb of Ruthers Glen Va, the General’s surviving sister, arrived.
The arksharge Colored Social club will celebrate Lincoln's birthday next Monday evening with a swell banquet in their hall at 420 West Main Street. A benefit for the Philipson Corn band, tickets are five cents for each. Prominent speakers will deliver addresses and music will be provided by the band and singers.
