In Washington Samuel Gompers faced contempt proceedings demanding he name Buck Stove and Range Company on a patrolled list. He claimed a restraining order barred his actions and argued he had not violated it while a clerical dispute over publication loomed.
In Charleston on February 6 the West Virginia Supreme Court, led by President Henry Brannon, held that sheriffs are not entitled to ten percent interest on taxes collected after January 1 and must funnel fifteen percent of emoluments into the county treasury once total receipts exceed four thousand dollars. The court also upheld the sheriff’s claim to seven and one-half percent for collecting road taxes.
Captain Hugh Callaghan waters works superintendent is in critical condition at 126 Bouthinden avenue after a second stroke Monday afternoon. He had previously suffered paralysis years ago at the Randolph county fair in Elkins, recovered enough to resume his post with limited use of an arm and leg. Friends hope for his recovery.

Separately, official dispatches from Washington say a new Mexican uprising is looming with Army preparations renewed and Chihuahua in revolt against President Madero.
