AAP reports no word from the Atlantic fleet by 10 o clock. it is expected the ships have crossed the Gulf Stream and now lie east of the Carolina coast as a major naval force vanishes from view.
Caleh Powers finished his direct examination after about eight hours on the stand in Georgetown Kentucky. He denied most of the damaging testimony presented by Noakes Golden and Youtsey. Powers’ cross examination is expected to take the remainder of the day.
The legislative mine investigation committee called by Chairman Gartlan to meet today to probe the Monongal mine disaster has not gathered. Judge Matthews and John Marshall arrived. Senator Gartlan is en route from Grafton, but most members are absent, with a possible postponement to next week as the coroner will not begin work until then.
M. L. Dillon, a salesman, fatally shot Mrs. Ne G. Cochran while she slept then killed himself. Dillon had deserted his wife and pressed Cochran to separate from her husband prompting the tragedy.

Gibson and Stephen Dorsey were executed at the state prison for the murder of Mrs Edward Horner and her servant Victoria Natoll during a home robbery. The crime occurred at the Horner residence, with further details incomplete in the report.

Alvy Matheney was found guilty and fined five dollars plus costs. others were discharged. Dorsey Matheney then swore out a warrant against Zupie accusing him of assault. Zupie confessed and was fined five dollars and costs.
Mrs Wiggs hosts a benefit bazaar with personal acquaintances including Alice Hogan. Anta of Australia and Kuronema will exhibit and sign calendars. The Watt Lambert Co presents the event with proceeds aiding a local cause.
Parkerburg Dex Dec 17 The Republican State committee may meet during the congressional adjournment to decide on an early state convention possibly in May The aim is to nominate the state ticket and the Big Four for Chicago to meet legal timing for national convention delegates. Congressional district conventions will also be scheduled earlier.
Charles Jenkins of Adamston yard brakeman for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was severely injured when coal shifted during loading at engine 2304 in the local yards Monday night. His left leg was amputated above the knee at St. Mary’s hospital and he remained under care Tuesday afternoon.
Mary Druemar of Columbia Mines was fined five dollars and costs by Magistrate Lordon after a neighborhood quarrel in which she slapped Antonio Urchak’s young son. Urchak had sworn out a warrant accusing her of fault and battery and Special Constable I L White arrested her at her home. she was released after paying.
Mrs Charles Girrard of Wallace is recovering well after a serious operation at Kessler hospital. Miss Harbertson of New Martinsville enters Kessler for typhoid fever treatment. Mirre Mamie Smith of Grafton discharged as cured after grip illness.
President Roosevelt and party return from Hampton Roads to the navy yard arriving around eight o’clock. The journey included the Mtay Howdr voyage with the President aboard and accompanying officials, marking the completion of a naval visit.

The winter term convocation at West Virginia University will be held Friday evening January 2 at eight o'clock. The speaker will be Dr. William Byron Forbush of Detroit Michigan pastor of the leading Congregational church. Dr Forbush is noted as an exceptionally fine speaker and his address is titled The Times In Which We Live.
