Chicago August 14 Associated Press reports that President Roosevelt was asked by the Chicago Board of Trade to intervene in the telegraphers strike to avert catastrophe. Both sides refused arbitration and made little progress. Telegraph circuits from Chicago to the Midwest were restored to normal, with Western Union and Postal companies claiming improved conditions.

Midnight Fire Destroys Candy Factory on Monticello Ave
