The Board of Supervisors of Election for Washington County Maryland announces the Board of Registry will sit at designated places in each election district and voting precinct on the following days to register voters as required by law.
On October 3, 10, and 17, 1922 from 8 A M to 7 P M, registration places are named across Washington County Maryland. Locations include Red Men’s Hall Sharpsburg Town Council Room Williamsport Firemen’s Truck Room Antietam Fire Hall Hagerstown Oscar Wendler’s Room Odd Fellows Hall Hancock Boonsboro Hollingsworth’s Tailor Shop Rohrersville Jr O U A M Halls Leitersburg Funkstown Sandy Hook Tilghman Tilgumanton Ringgold Indian Springs Beaver Creek Hinterstown Ha gerstown Chewsyville Keedysville Downaville Hagerstown areas and more with specific room addresses and store rooms. Nineteen hundred line: Sioux Tribe No 94 of Hagerstown will hold an open air initiation of 10 members in City Park Saturday night at 7 o clock. Capt Charles Bonner will oversee ceremonies as Washington county Red Men march in a full regalia parade from Washington Square through West Washington Street Public Square Potomac Franklin Jonathan to City Park. Local Red Men from Martinsburg expected. Western Maryland Employees Band to play.
The oldest known home in Buckeye County near Martinsburg, once home to W. L. Shepherd, built in 1763 by a great great grandfather, burned from an unknown origin. It housed historic relics including a bedstead used by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Losses are unestimated due to extensive antique destruction.
Stockholders of the Fredericks Hotel Company ratified a bond issue of 400000 and the lease of hotel and equipment to John S Hershey of Philadelphia. Financing for the $900000 hotel now under construction in the city was fully discussed at the meeting.
Pendleton County West Virginia was added to the Hagerstown district of the United States Veteran Bureau to improve war veteran services in the county. The article also notes ancient engraving on emeralds and the weight-supporting leaves of Madras water lilies as curiosities.
In Greencastle Sept 26 the Grace Reformed Sunday School carried a motion to contribute 160 to the Jerome R King Playground Association, bringing the total to 3088 for playground work. Community events included a Music Club gathering honoring Mrs Clover, a First United Brethren Church service with a 400+ offering for building funds, and a talk by Prof. Mowery. Local residents H H Gussman and Stauffer families visit Quakertown, while Hetrick and family host guests. James Smith adds two rooms to his North Washington property, Harriet Rhodes visits Allentown, and H S Snyder begins a cottage excavation near Welsh Run by the Conococheague.
Frederick September 27 Arthur Weedon a negro, was found guilty of the murder of Samuel Jenkins a negro, in a trial before a local court jury. The killing arose from a trip to the bootlegging district of Frederick and a petty quarrel near Buckeystown where all involved reside. Jenkins defense claimed he did not know the revolver was loaded. Sentence was withheld pending preparation for a motion for a new trial.
Directors of the Norfolk and Western Railway Company vote to reduce the road's debt to the Government after confirming the usual one dollar dividend on adjustment preferred stock. They also authorize actions toward cutting the Government equipment trust certificates as of January 15, 1923.
Baltimore markets list cattle price ranges with quality bands and sample figures for beef cows veal and calves. Sheep and lambs show per pound values by grade while hogs and sows are quoted by weight and quality.
The 1922 Maryland General Assembly proclamation outlines five Acts proposing constitutional amendments. It covers changes to Article III Legislative Department sections 2 and 4, Article VI Treasury Department section 1, an added Article XVII on Quadrennial Budget, and Article XV section 10 Miscellaneous. The text specifies submission of amendments to qualified voters and references Baltimore City districts.
The General Assembly proposes constitutional amendments to reorganize state and local elections, adjust terms for governors senators and other officers, and add a new Article XVIII Quadrennial Elections. The measures include shifting all state and county offices to four-year terms, synchronizing appointments, and setting election schedules for future ballots.
