Salvation Army annual drive opens Tuesday in Hagerstown
The Salvation Army launches its fund drive October 1 to 7 with programs planned by Mitchell Focker, chairman. The drive funds Christmas dinners and toys, Easter eggs, a holiday camp for ten days, youth programs, and support for needy mothers. Edgar C. Jones and Mrs. V. Cozzelli fill key roles as measurer and secretary. A “program extra-ordinary” at Colonial Theatre on October 1 at 7 20 features local talent, with booths at the fair and youth displays ongoing. Campaign headquarters are on West Franklin Street opposite the post office.

Tributes Paid To College President Ward
Dr. A Norman Ward late president of Western Maryland College was buried at Westminster Cemetery after services in Alumni Hall. More than 1800 people heard leaders of Methodism honor his character and work in education and religion. The casket lay in state with a guard from the school's ROTC unit as hundreds passed by. Floral offerings surrounded the grave.

Youths Accused of Stolen Bicycle
Three youths arrested by Sgt John Divine for stealing a bicycle from Woodland Way High School. The bike, repainted, was identified by its serial number.
