St Johns Episcopal To Dedicate New Parish House This Sunday
The dedication will be led by Rt Rev Noble C Powell Bishop of Maryland with St Johns congregation Washington County Ministerial Association clergy and guests from Baltimore and Washington present. The parish house cost 172000 includes 15 rooms two stories connected to the church by cloisters and features a 300 seat multi purpose room with eight classrooms and a large stage. The building houses a full kitchen dining hall and a second floor with eight classrooms junior choir acolytes and senior choir facilities plus a Moller pipe organ and choir rooms. Constructed of concrete block with brick exterior it was designed by Chapman & Lesler and built by Arthur F Chambers Sons with Miler Lixe as subcontractor. The project sits at South Prospect Street near the historic church.

The Hagerstown economy showed gains in August compared with the prior year per the Chamber of Commerce Bulletin. Bank debits rose from 41.52 million to 48.844 million, building permits up 59 percent, county permits 17.5 percent, 41 new dwelling units started vs 39, payrolls up 5.9 percent, post office receipts up 17 percent, and telephone users up 9 percent to 22,355. City building permits fell from 35 to 24 and air passengers declined.
