Local Marine on Maneuvers Near East Coast Route
Clarence David Powell of Smithsburg Maryland serves with the East Coast Expeditionary Force of the U S Marine Corps as maneuvers span from August 27 to October 7. The unit visits Civil War battlefields at Waynesboro Winchester and New Market and reenacts New Market with Virginia Military Institute cadets. The 309 mile circuit ends in Washington before a return to Quantico. Powell, 23, joined about a year ago and serves in the Force Train Company along with several Maryland Marines. Unemployed expelled in Fiume to save government funds. 4000 sent away by General Gerdino to depopulate the city.
