Strikes Threaten Aircraft Plants

In Buffalo New Jersey and Bendix New Jersey unions threaten strikes at Curtiss Wright and Air Associates. The Curtiss Wright group called for a National Labor Relations Board representation election within 10 days claiming a majority of 15000 workers support it. Leo Kriesbaum said the mass meeting was nearly unanimous. CIO workers at Air Associates in Bendix authorized a second strike after a July strike lasting 21 days. Joel Miller noted about 300 workers were authorized to strike and cited a prior election win and subsequent firings as issues.

Two youths held for grand jury action in theft case

John Stevens 17 of 800 block West Washington and George Mc Cauley 17 of 200 block Summer Street were held on $1000 bond each for grand jury action after pleading before Magistrate Harry E. Snyder on charges of breaking and entering Snyder's News Agency in Public Square and taking $85 in cash. They were arrested Thursday evening by city police and admitted the theft which occurred last July. Three other juveniles, also arrested in a spree of auto thefts, were sent to St Marys Industrial School by Justice Harvey M. Miller. a 15 year old colored boy received a suspended sentence of one year to Cheltenham School. Police said about 20 recent robberies were solved with the arrests.

Union Flag From Gettysburg Donated To Sharpsburg Museum

The museum at Sharpsburg near Antietam recently acquired a U S flag used in the Battle of Gettysburg by the First Maryland Infantry. Warning Prohibits Brazilian Vessels From Certain Zones

Brazilian merchant marine authorities issued the first general ban on ship movements, prohibiting Brazilian ships from entering specified zones and advising against others. The zones include Europe coast except Vigo to Guadiana River, West Africa north from Luanda, East Africa north of Lourenco Marques, South Atlantic near Eshia Glanca Argentina, and the entire Pacific Ocean.
