Firefighters battled a nine acre Cork & Seal storage yard blaze in Baltimore yesterday. The flames consumed a year's supply of cork valued at $500,000, with cork bales still smoldering as the fire was brought under control after hours of effort. Freshman units aided a 400-strong force.
Sixty five farmers joined the second annual Pasture Improvement Tour sponsored by a county committee and County Agent Milt D. Moore. Speeches covered pasture improvement, hybrid corn, alfalfa silage, and cattle breeding. Farms visited included Stockslager Leitersburg Pike Newcomer Ringgold Showalter Mauganville Rench Sharpshore Pike with demonstrations on each site, Guernsey cattle herds, and rotation pasture practices.
In Bombay on September 19 Mohandas K Gandhi, leader of India's nationalist movement, announced a non violent antiwar campaign to avoid embarrassing Britain. He plans to preach passive resistance while awaiting an interview with Viceroy Lord Linlithgow and will seek permission to urge non participation in the war among millions of followers reaching Wardha.

He alleges withheld private papers and seeks testimony from three witnesses while acting as his own attorney. A writ returnable this afternoon was set by Judge Edward S. Delaplaine.
Emmitsburg Maryland September 19 Herbert W Rogers Emmitsburg fire chief was seriously hurt when his car hit a bridge abutment on Route 15 near town He was pinned under the vehicle and transported to a Gettysburg Pennsylvania hospital with concussion and multiple lacerations reported by state police noting his condition as critical
Two hunters did not find squirrels scarce in the county section. J A Spetcher and Charlies F Strole hunted at South Mountain on opening day and Spetcher claimed a full limit. On Sideling Hill Mountain, Strole took four squirrels, most from a single tree.

He shifted from radioman to electricity as part of radio work and advanced to Electrician's Mate Third Class.
