The Fleetwood trawler Rudyard Kipling was sunk by a German submarine off Belfast on Sunday. The submarine towed a lifeboat with the crew to Wichin five miles from shore.
A train collision between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on Sunday killed nineteen Jews and left many wounded. The incident occurred when a bus was struck midway between the two cities. The page also advertises help wanted listings in the column.
Four American survivors from the Norwegian freighter Ronda tell of a mine strike off Terschelling in the North Sea that sank the ship and killed 17. Alfred Huffer Jr of Boonsboro with a thumb caught in windmill gears. Marvin Orndorff 17 months old of Hagerstown Route 1 with a right clavicle fracture. Edward Worden of Mason and Dixon with a right arm fracture from a fall. Kenneth Stouffer 14 of North Foundry Street with a broken arm after stairs fall. Paul Hoover of Chambersburg admitted for an eye injury. Bananas were almost unknown in the U S as recently as 50 years ago.
