Miss Kathryn Dyche entertained at a surprise miscellaneous shower at Hotel Patterson Friday evening for Mrs. Emory H. Kline nee Louise Nigh. Bridge was played and supper served. Yellow and white decor themed the event with bride and groom place cards. Twenty guests attended.
The Hershey Creamery Companys banquet at the Hotel Patterson celebrated reaching August district quota. Forty one employees with wives and friends attended a musical program, with company officials from Harrisburg present.
Summers at Edgemont bring Mrs Coleman Rogers and Mrs Charles A Little as well as Frances Kreigh Prep for Mt St Josephs College High School Emmitsburg. Dozens of locals and visitors travel to Baltimore Cleveland Philadelphia and Canada for medical visits graduations and vacations.
Miss Thelma Eloise Rhodes daughter of Mrs R W Rhodes and Frank Nelson Corbin the son of Mr and Mrs William Corbin were married at 11 30 this morning at the First Baptist church in Martinsburg The ceremony was performed by Rev John Ward Brown with Miss Frances O Brien Mrs Thomas O Brien and Miss Claire Crider as witnesses The bride who had been assistant dietician at Kings Daughters Hospital Martinsburg will reside at 70 West King Street Martinsburg
Final plans for the Washington County C E Union convention set for Thursday at First Christian Church South Potomac street. Banquet opens at 6 30 p m with Carroll Bailey of Baltimore leading pop singing. Miss Ethel Paynes reports on Philadelphia convention and Lillian Rodenki presents next year’s State Union program. Offi cers to be elected and installed by Rev Alfred J Thomas who will also deliver the closing address.
Miss Lavania Moore, who will wed Bruce C. Wilson on September 17, was entertained at a miscellaneous shower hosted by Mrs. John Small in Waynesboro. A pink and white color note adorned the party with bridge prizes going to Mrs. Naomi Taylor and Mrs. Emmitt Price.
C H Hoover marks his 80th birthday today at 52 North Cannon Avenue. He spent the past week in Gettysburg visiting friends and remains one of the city market’s most regular producers.
An inspiring missionary meeting was held Thursday evening at the home of Miss Nelle Clopper in Beaver Creek. Mrs. J G Mason led devotions followed by a vocal solo by Mrs. Sinisen, Mrs. Sterling and Mrs. Houser. Miss Gayl McConnell gave a reading and refreshments were sold to benefit the organization for more than one hundred members and guests present.
Mrs. Donald Stewart hosted a farewell and handkerchief shower for Miss Jane Roof who departs for Western Maryland College Westminster. Guests included Catherine Berger Garnetta Roof Jeanette McClain and several others with cards themed around football stadiums and tallies. Favors were suitcases and many handkerchiefs were given. Honors in cards went to Mrs. Jay Schaff Miss Jeanette McClain and Mrs. Marlin Thurmond.
Miss Harriet Doub was honored at a Thursday evening shower hosted by Yi Stitley and Naomi Thomas at East Franklin Street. Attendees celebrated Harriet Doub ahead of her fall marriage to Kenneth Long with green and yellow decor and cards games. Also reported is a double wedding: H Newton Henderson and Loraine Carter and Franklin Q Key and Nancy Hunt.
Twenty past worthy matrons and patrons were guests of honor at the first fall meeting in Masonic Temple. W. P. Wachter attended as past worthy grand patron. Rosebuds and handkerchiefs were given, with gifts to Misa Schwinger and remarks by C. W. Sullivan and Miss Schwinger. A musical program followed with a quartet and piano solo, then refreshments for 125 guests including visitors from out of state chapters.
At least three couples obtained marriage licenses on Friday the thirteenth. Licenses issued by the clerk's office list Basil M. McCann and Helen M. Shoe maker, Ludwig M. Long and Janice M. Poffenberger, James P. Peanell and Frances M. Linton. Also mentions a birthday party for nine year old Mary Dale Ross with guests listed at East Antietam Street.

Master Alfred A. Henneberger Jr entertained several little friends and their mothers on Thursday afternoon for his third birthday.
