Underground blast rattles western Colorado area

An underground explosion near Grand Valley, Colorado, equaling 40 000 tons of TNT, occurred as scheduled after weather delays. The Atomic Energy Commission said no radioactivity escaped. Protesters from Aspen and Cedaredge gathered at the observation site amid concerns about Tritium release and contamination in the food chain.
