Hurricane Donna battered the Miami area with heavy rains and winds up to 97 mph as it moved toward the Tampa Bay region. The storm knocked out telephone lines in Naples and endangered coastal towns. a white man’s body was found at Tavernier as Donna unleashed 135 mph winds on the island.
Kasavubu vows to form a new government with Senate leader Joseph Ileo as premier and rid Congo of Communist influence. He claims Lumumba was fired and must be ousted, while Parliament voids the dismissals and Guinea contemplates withdrawing its UN mission amid tensions.
UNITED NATIONS AP reports the Security Council debated Congo airfield and radio seizures amid Lumumba Kasavubu tensions. More than a dozen homes changed hands in this week's real estate market with total transactions exceeding $250,000. Brokers report typical activity with many building-lot prospects and several new houses among the deeds recorded, including Mary Elizabeth Lohman transferring to Thomas C. Griffiths and wife a tract along the east side of Hagerstown Boonsboro Pike in District 6.
The United States told the Soviet Union that Premier Nikita Khrushchev must not travel off Manhattan during his New York visit. A memorandum to the Soviet U N delegation urged housing near the UN and movement limited to official mission duties. Similar restrictions were asked for Janos Kadar and Mehmet Shehu to ensure security for the Communist leaders.
A head-on collision near Watfordsburb Pa left James Rolson 20 from Scottsdale Pa in critical condition at Berkeley Springs Hospital. Willian Hancox and Donald Cima were injured. Mrs Nell Dawson and George Dawson unhurt. State Police probe by Trooper Ralph Kell staffing. no charges yet.

Boston AP Edith Nourse Rogers congresswoman from Massachusetts died today at Massachusetts General Hospital aged 79. Her long service in the House spanned decades and she was a leading advocate for veterans and national security. Her death ends a prominent political career rooted in New England.

Four Maryland youths, three from Sabillasville and one from Lantz, were killed near Waynesboro when their speeding car, chased by Pennsylvania troopers, crashed after hitting a pole and a tree. Driver Kuhn, 20, from Lantz, died. three others, Buhrman, Eyler, and Lantz, all Sabillasville residents, perished. A fifth occupant, Haley, 22, was injured. The crash occurred on Pennsylvania 16 at about 3 a.m. Police traced the chase and identified the survivors and the fatalities. The victims were taken to local funeral homes. the accident remains under investigation.
Congressman James M. Quigley will speak at the county wide Democratic picnic in Williamsport on Wednesday evening September 14. A prominent Pennsylvania Democrat born in Mount Carmel, Quigley served 12 1/2 years in the Navy including the Pacific Theatre and sits on key committees. Woody Rippeon heads the picnic efforts as tickets are sold at Democratic Headquarters and through committee members.
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad eliminates the westbound yard at Brunswick and opens a new Cumberland classification yard. More than 60 to 100 shop and transportation workers in Washinton County face possible job losses or relocation. Officials say no other immediate yard closures are planned, though some staff may move to Cumberland if needed.
