Washington expects quick passage as Congress authorizes tightening citizenship rules and purging the citizen rolls of many “doubtful” Americans. The move aims to energize action against Fifth Columnists amid wartime pressures and moves to revise and codify existing nationality laws this week.
Roger C. Harp of the 200 block South Potomac street recalled a horse kick from his youth in Wolfsville when a doctor examined him for an earache and found a broken tooth fragment. The incident occurred on his father's Wolfsville farm.
Officials push amendments to strip citizenship from those serving in foreign armies and those with long residence bindings abroad. The plan targets naturalized citizens long abroad, those born in territories, and those able to pass citizenship to children born abroad, with stricter naturalization and inheritance rules to curb dual loyalties.
Cornelius Castle a 14 year old of Browntown was injured Sunday evening at 6 30 when struck by a car driven by Leo Remsburg of Middletown in the village. He suffered a broken leg and bruises and was taken to Brunswick Hospital. Remsburg stopped after the impact and assisted the boy.
Claude Porter a bread salesman from Shippensburg was injured Saturday evening when a bread truck overturned on the Middleburg Greencastle pike. Officers said Porter borrowed the truck from Caskey Baking Company after his own delivery vehicle failed. The Caskey truck was towed to Hagerstown. Archbishop Arthur J. Crossaerts of San Antonio died Sunday, a church leader for Oklahoma and Texas beyond El Paso.
President Roosevelt attended a national day of prayer for world peace at St James Episcopal Church Hyde Park with Mrs Roosevelt Crown Princess Martha and Countess Gstgard of Norway. The rector prayed that oppression would be stayed and Jesus offered peace through righteousness and justice.
Frances Marie Burke, 19, of Philadelphia, crowned Miss America at Atlantic City, says she has no steady boyfriend and lists tall, manly qualifications for an escort. She stands five feet nine, 120 pounds with brown hair, and was previously Miss Philadelphia.
George A. Herr, 23, of Shippensburg pleaded guilty in Franklin County Court Saturday to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced to pay a fine. The case stems from a fatal incident investigated by local authorities. Herr faces additional charges and potential probation depending on further court actions.
The driver faced a $100 fine, cost of prosecution, and fifteen months jail dating from July 7. The July 7 crash on Germantown road near Scotland to Black Gap killed two Shippensburg youths, George Heltrick and George W Meredith, as their auto struck a dwelling.HEADS VETERANS Braddock Heights Md Sept 9 Wilber W Baker of Greeneville Md elected president of the Veterans Association succeeding J Alvy Fritz of Thurmont.
