Charles S. Houck of Walkersville won the Maryland American Legion command by eight votes after four ballots at Ocean City. Roy L. Pyle and Baltimore attorney Paul Higinbotham were runners up as Cumberland won the 1936 convention bid and John F. McNulty was endorsed for national command. Auxiliary officers were named including Mrs. Frank P. Farley as president and district vice presidents. In Annapolis Maryland on September 9 a head on crash on the South River bridge killed Charles F Newburgh 21 of Chevy Chase. Robert L Crim 30 of Washington and Robert Joyce Mayo negro were charged with reckless driving.

Youth Admits To Robberies
Charles Davis an 18 year old from West Church street was arrested Sunday by sheriff's officers for questioning in a series of robberies. He confessed last night to stealing a watch and money from William G. Moser of Bridgeport Ross Grove on Middleburg pike and cash from W. R. Smyre in Fiddlersboro. Davis led officers to a hiding place along Middleburg pike where most of the money was recovered.
