A theft at Blue Ridge Tire Company in Waynesboro occurred Sunday morning as clerk Samuel Hummer left the office for about ten minutes. About $25 was taken during the incident.
Mr and Mrs D E Stickley of Hagerstown have assumed management of the Gateway Inn located along the Western Pike. A small disturbance occurred as Feoterigte items were found on a counter during a clerks absence, prompting a brief investigation by local authorities.
Broadway School enrollment hits 840 while Senior High School reports about 1,100 registrations, exceeding last year’s totals. Woodland Way Junior High enrolls 844 and South Potomac Junior High 675, with facilities expanding to include a new playground. Smithsburg High School to build sewage disposal plant costing 725 dollars on land bought for 700. Abel Wolman advises an improved system and land near the school will host gravel pits for disposal. Teacher assignments finished with Charlotte Hauver added to Mt Lena School.
The Downsville St James Y P RB held their regular monthly meeting at St James Church. Ruth Reichard presided. Miss Catherine Gaylor elected song reader and Miss Jean Trone with Miss Frances Metz elected pianists. Margaret Lowery announced a medal contest to be held October 20 at St Jamies. Two medals to Brethren Young People and Manor Downaville winner and to Young People of St James. The evening deotions theme was Service. Program included group singing reading The Life That Counts by Blanche Long quartet by Gayfor and Litten and DeLauder prayer by Ruth Reichard story Stand Up For Jesus by Mrs Ed Lehman reading The Mission School by Ruth Long dramatization The Light of the World Is Jesus story Celia Mission by Naomi Coffman and quartet by Geyler and DeLauder. Entire program prepared by Brethren Young People's Department of Manor and Downsville. Mary Young Rebekah Lodge met at I O O F Temple with large attendance. Invitations from Hampden Rebekah Lodge Baltimore Sept 15 and Pride of Elk Ridge Rebekah Lodge Brunswick Sept 23. Next meeting Sept 15. Turtles and frogs are deaf to human speech.
