Roscoe Turner won the 300 mile Thompson Trophy at the National Air Races in Cleveland before about 300000 spectators, set a record speed of 283.419 mph in the Turner Laird Pesco Special, and earned 22000 prize money. Earl Ortman finished second after motor trouble, Steve Wittman placed third, Leigh Wade fourth, with Wade earning 2801 and Mackey 1800.
