Firemen to Attend Third Maryland Fire Course at University
Hagerstown and Williamsport fire crews plus others will join the third Enennial Short Course for Firemen at the University of Maryland September 6 7 and 8 under Dr A N Johnson. The program covers modern firefighting techniques drills and demonstrations with noted instructors including Sherwood Brockwell and Edward Warr. Enrollment is expected to rise with all 149 Maryland Firemen's Association member companies aiming to participate. The dogwatch aboard ship remains two two hour periods from 4 to 6 p m and 6 to p m.

Plan to Increase Wheat Acreage in Maryland
Maryland farmers expect to plant about 450000 acres of wheat and 55000 acres of rye this fall based on August 5 indications. This would mark roughly a 12 percent rise in wheat and 10 percent in rye from last year. Weather, price shifts, and other factors could alter realization of these figures. The 1932 wheat acreage is estimated at 39.805 million compared with 40.172 million in 1931, and rye at 4.611 million versus 4.853 million in 1931.

A 45 year old mother of five, Amanda Longworth, was shot and killed while drawing water at a well in Middlesboro Kentucky. Frankie Bullock Miller, 38, mother of eight, was arrested and charged. Miller admitted the shooting but did not explain the quarrel.

Labor Day Quiet in Hagerstown With Limited Services
Labor Day is to be observed with minimal labor and a quiet day in Hagerstown. Banks will close and some stores close. Postmaster E. M. Tenney declares no rural or city carrier service from the post office, which follows a holiday schedule. Two mail collections will occur and mail will be sorted into post office boxes. Frederick Weather Brings Storm Damage and Revival Plans
A storm drenched Frederick with 11.71 inches of rain during a severe electric storm, ending the heat wave after a 95 degree day. Lightning struck William H. Shryock's barn near Grearerstown, destroying it and 300 bushels of wheat and 48 tons of hay, with losses around 2500 dollars. Revival meetings begin at Corbett Street Union Chapel next week at 8 PM led by Hiram Davis succeeding Rev. Bard who leaves for Bluefield College.

Man Held On Murder Charge In Maryland Shooting
Frederick, Md Sept 2 Russell Cartnail 25 died in Frederick City Hospital from a concussion following an assault. Elmer Kline 30 of New Baltimore is held on a first degree murder charge after allegedly clubbing Cartnail with the shotgun butt. Police and state officers used tear gas to enter Kline’s home and arrest him.
