Apple theft reported at Beaver Creek orchard
The larceny of between 100 and 150 bushels of apples from the orchard of Charles S. G. Hartle at Beaver Creek was reported to the Sheriff. Thieves used a big truck to load apples from a hinge pile on a moonlit night. The Rev Alan England Brooke, chaplain to the King since 1918, died in Cambridge England at age 76.

Four Injured in Shepherdstown Car Crash
Four local residents were injured when their car left the highway near Shepherdstown West Virginia. The vehicle clipped a telephone pole and overturned against an elm tree. Injured were Jeannette Banks Winford Banks Nathaniel Fleming and Alfred Kimes treated by a local physician. Driver Raymond Campbell and passenger Frank Adams escaped uninjured. Campbell was fined 25 dollars and costs for operating without a license.

Five Vessels Sunk by Subs Off Gibraltar
DSLO October 31 report says a convoy of 24 merchantmen leaving Gibraltar October 14 was attacked by at least three German submarines. Five ships reportedly sunk, including the Ledbury, Menin Ridge, Tafna, Clan Chisholm, and another vessel. Bardaland rescued 61 crew from Clan Chisholm and ferried them to Kirkwall after the attack.

Two Fatally Hurt In Auto Accident Near Greenstone
Two people died in a Sunday auto crash on Fairfield road near Greenstone. W David Kitzmiller, 34, of Gettysburg, died instantly from a crushed skull. Mrs Theodore Stape, 27, of Gettysburg, mother of three, died next morning at Waynesboro hospital from a fractured skull. The husband suffered burns. Injured were taken to hospital by Richard Martin and Mary Snyder. Coroner said no inquest due to Kitzmiller’s death.

Motorization Move Slows Cavalry Units In Fifth Corps
Columbus Ohio last night reported gloom among mule skinners of the Fifth Corps Avea United States Army. Maj. Gen Daniel Van Voorhis ordered machine gun howitzer and headquarters companies to turn in horses and mules as a step toward complete motorization. He said movements would speed from 12 to 35 miles an hour.

Direct ors of Celanese Corporation of America Monday declared a stock dividend of one share for each 40 shares and a cash dividend of 50 cents a share.
