No American troops or drivers would join combat. the aim is to speed aid, equipment use, and morale to stabilize Greece for recovery efforts.

Fire threats across Allegany and Garrett counties subsided as rapid rainfall extinguished more than a dozen blazes. Acting State Forester H. C. Buckingham called the rain a Godsend and noted fire towers will stay closed while crews rest. He warned that sunny weather and rising winds could renew danger. Keedysville logged a high of 93 and a low of 59 degrees.
