Baker sentenced to year in jail for whiskey theft
Walter Baker, 35, ex convict, was found guilty of larceny for stealing several bottles of whiskey from Myers liquor store on West Washington street. Magistrate John D. Dunn sentenced him to one year in the House of Correction after witnesses testified to the window crash. Baker faced prior conviction in 1931 for a station robbery at Keedysville and was held in default of $1,000 bond pending appeal.

City Council Funds Transients Aid Amid Winter Relaxed Rules
The City Council voted to appropriate 25 weekly for 30 weeks to aid boarding and lodging transients during winter. County commissioners approved a similar sum to be spent by the Salvation Army for housing facilities. Mayor pro tempore Herbert Cost presided. Mayor Wertz was ill. Transients may stay one day. wood will be provided for fuel, meals limited to two, and a full record kept with no disorders allowed.

Local Man Injured In Motorcycle Crash Near Piney Grove
Charles Cozort, 35, of this city, was admitted to Memorial Hospital at Cumberland after a motorcycle left the National Highway about 10 miles west of Hancock near Piney Grove. Physicians termed his condition critical though he partially regained consciousness late last night. State Police Lieut Niles G Falkenstine investigated the crash. A card in his pocket indicated he lived at 306 South Mulberry Street.

Blame crash on fuel supply failure in Pittsburgh
The Bureau of Air Commerce attributed the Pittsburgh sight seeing plane crash on Sept 6 that killed 10 to likely fuel supply failure. It said fuel flow was cut when the valve may have been accidentally pushed to off, possibly by a passenger. One survivor, Linde McDonald, 17, Miami High School graduate, credited to seat belt. The fire followed impact. no engine or propeller mechanical failure found.

Increase Shown In Fatal Mishaps
The National Safety Council reported that traffic deaths rose to a new high in the first nine months of 1936, with 25,850 lives lost in motor vehicle crashes versus 25,830 in 1935. If the trend holds, auto crash fatalities may reach about 37,500 for 1936. Also noted is the sale of Harsh property, a brick house on Vermont Street, Williamsport, for $565 to Ear F. Washington Oct 28 The nation’s capital may be the only U S city where liquor sales will be legal next Tuesday. Elsewhere, liquor sales on election day are banned by state law but District of Columbia residents have no vote.
