Chewsville Barn and Crops Destroyed by Fire
A large bank barn owned by William Williams near Chewsville burned early last night, destroying crops, hay, straw, some machinery, and a hog. Estimated loss runs around 6000 dollars. Fire started in the straw mow, with neighbors and the Smithsburg and Antietam Fire Companies joining a bucket brigade. the roof was ignited twice but quickly extinguished. Insurance covered the building but not crops or machinery. The blaze began about 6:30 o'clock.

Danzer Loses 200000 Suit Against Railway
A Baltimore Court of Common Pleas jury awarded $200,000 to Danzer Lumber Co. against Western Maryland Railway after 12 minutes of deliberation. The trial centered on a February 4 1931 fire that destroyed the Danzer plant on Madison Avenue alleged to be caused by railroad negligence. William Meese a former Western Maryland engineer testified to perjury and was jailed for inability to post bond. Earlier testimony claimed J O Greene was present but later denied by Meese, affecting the case.
