Helena Montana started rebuilding after a series of earthquakes that cost two lives and disrupted the city for 12 days. Stores reopened and damaged stock was quickly being replaced as Helena resumed normal business.
Eastern Cuba cleared debris as a tropical hurricane weakened over Oriente province. Casualties ranged from one to four dead and 29 injured, with confirmation of a woman's death in Santiago and reports of three drownings from Caimanera after evacuation precautions. The storm did not push toward the Bahamas due to a high pressure area.
Fairchild Aircraft Corp leading maker of 1000 to 5000 pound class airplanes in the United States with 73 Federal registrations from January 1 to September 7. Sherman M. Three women in a car on the slippery Sharpsburg pike near Lappans crossroads were burned and narrowly electrocuted when a wire fell on their vehicle after it struck a pole. Injured were Mrs. Frances Myers, Mrs. Polly Davis, and Mrs. May Hammon. A West Virginia milk truck driver from Charles Town, seeing the crowd, drove through a fence and escaped injury as the truck overturned. The 12,000 volt line and slick road contributed to the crash early this morning.

Russell B. Henneberger a 25 year old Chambersburg High School English teacher died yesterday from an infection that began as a small carbuncle on his upper lip. He taught the day before his illness and was a 1928 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

Raymond W. Baumgardner a former Greencastle policeman was arrested and charged by a federal officer with possession of untaxed liquor. The officer testified untaxed liquor was found at the Baumgardner residence on July 19. Baumgardner reportedly held a state liquor retail license while his wife held a malt beverage license.
In New York on October 23, Louis Amberg was found dead in a burning car with a burlap hood and a battered skull, tied to a gang war over East New York slot machine and shakedown rackets. Detectives say he was hunted for another killing. the body was identified after firemen put out the blaze and officials removed the hood. The car, found near the Navy Yard in Brooklyn, had stolen plates, and police suspect Amberg was slain in Manhattan and moved across the bridge.
Jacob Beard Jr aged 20 earned his first solo flight after only four hours and fifteen minutes of instruction at Hagertown Airport. He rapidly added flight hours and now has five hours of solo time, breaking the local record previously held by Lewis Mullenix who flew solo after four hours and twenty five minutes of instruction.
Former New York Mayor James J. Walker said he will delay plans to return to the United States until the fire at his mother-in-law Mrs Frederick Compton’s house is settled. He had considered sailing on the Manhattan but postponed due to unresolved issues. Walker and Betty will not leave while the family faces these difficulties.
