In a Washington radio address on October 23 President Roosevelt urged the public to support private charities and a 1934 mobilization for human needs. He asked for continued private contributions to private organizations and called for a decentralization of relief efforts led by Newton D. Baker of Ohio.
A Baltimore policeman sets chalk marks on tires to time parked cars and drivers who erase the marks face disorderly conduct charges. Capt. Hamilton A. Atkinson, traffic chief, notes many arrests include carwash workers who erase marks as part of their service, while other communities have ruled erasures punishable.

Moller organ builder M P Moller Sr witnessed dedications of two organs on October 11 in Plainfield at Crescent Avenue Presbyterian and the following Sunday at Tennent Church on Monmouth Battlefield. The Plainfield instrument, a four manual and echo organ, drew praise. the Tennent Church, a modest two manual organ, marked a filial milestone.
A man cutting timber near Smithsburg was badly injured when a tree fell on him. Leon Bachtell, 33, suffered a fractured nose and a severely lacerated face and was transported to a hospital. Police in Baltimore hunted fugitives Robert Mais and Walter Legenza, former Richmond murder convicts, without success as they checked leads from Washington toward Baltimore.
A cow owned by F. L. Watters of Funks Town Pike was struck and killed by an automobile early last night. Watters reported cattle broke through a fence and wandered onto the road. No one in the car was hurt though the vehicle sustained damage.
The Alsatia Club reorganized its dance and entertainment committees to coordinate a year of events. John J Fiery chairs the dance committee with Rex Gaver and others. J Vernon Metz leads the entertainment group with W Norman Reed handling publicity. The first event is the Halloween dance at the Armory on October 31 from 10 PM to 2 AM with Jimmie De Anglis’s 12 piece band.
Sharp west winds failed to shed blossoms from trees in the yard of County Investigator Martin L. Ingram at 500 block West Howard street. The trees have been in second bloom for several days, signaling continued flowering in the neighborhood.
Robert W. Greenlief was held for action by the Federal grand jury after a hearing before United States Commissioner J. in Baltimore. He faces charges of passing counterfeit $10 bills at the Frederick Fair and was held in $10,000 bail.
Two women in charge of fair booths testified that Greenlief gave them $10 bills which they later identified as counterfeit. The testimony hinges on the credibility of the prosecution's key witness and the handling of the suspect in the Frederick churches case.
