The Al Gat Mummers Parade committee called a Wednesday meeting at the club rooms to arrange flea details for the parade. Immediately after the parade a street dance will be held in Public Square with music by Peter Burs and the Municipal Band. Spectators are urged to stay behind the curb line along the parade route for optimal viewing.
Parade organizers urge spectators to stay back from the curb to give the procession full square space as it moves south on Potomac toward Baltimore and Oak Hill. Lights along the route will extend viewing for five extra blocks toward the Western Maryland Railroad and South Potomac. Float and organized body divisions are expected to be the largest yet with more entrants than previous years. Judging for prizes occurs on Baltimore Street with winners sent to Alsatia Club rooms for final judging. Rain date is Friday night, Novem ber 1.
Thomas Haller retired merchant and fraternalist died at 79 in Frederick after a long illness. He co founded Union Manufacturing and helped organize the Frederick and Middle town Railroad later part of Potomac Edison. Survived by widow Cora Bowers Haller four children and several siblings.
In Hollywood, Stephen Simkhovlich a $4-year-old playwright and volunteer in a Dr. Ralph Willard freezing experiment is shown with Dorothy Cowan a 30 year old Santa Barbara newspaperwoman. They plan to marry soon. Associated Press photo
In Cumberland on October 21 a coroner's jury exonerated John L. Dicken of Bowling Green in the inquest into the death of Reuben Garnet, 56, who was fatally injured when struck by Dicken's automobile last night. Testimony showed Garnet appeared to be cross the road at the time of the accident.
A pedestrian ran into the path of a vehicle on a rural highway six miles west of the city, causing a fatal traffic incident. The driver reported the event to authorities and investigators are reviewing the scene and witness statements.
Maryland Racing Commission chairman Jervis Spencer Jr announced a chemists analysis showed a soporific drug given to two Laurel track horses last week. Victims were Mrs H L Ughetta's Deduce and John E Hughes Silent Shot, favorites in last Thursday's fifth and feature races. The drug, in capsule form, was bunged and raised no ill effects. The report says the drug would take effect in six to eight hours and could have altered post-time outcomes. The jace was stopped when doping was found. Investigators and officials continued inquiry. A safety school patrol is being organized at Hancock Grammar School with ten patrolmen chosen. A minor may secure a patent as well as a person 21 or older.
A Guy Miller president of the Maryland Delaware and District of Columbia Elks Association will visit the local Lodge of Elks in this city this evening. R Edward Dove secretary Adolph Braun past District Deputy and several other Elks accompany the president. Hagerstown Lodge No 378 has planned a big social with the German Band directed by Arthur Seigman. No initiation. committee includes G Ray Bolinger C K Harte Chas G Swartz and E Leister Mobley.
Many motorists in the region have not completed required state auto inspections before the November 1 deadline. No fine exists for violations, but licenses can be revoked and vehicles kept in garages until inspection is completed.

Maryland Governor Harry W. Nice said the state will request federal relief funds for November to aid those removed from WPA relief rolls on November 1. The move comes as direct relief is slated to end, with State Relief Administrator Harry Greenstein preparing the formal request.
Governor Nice said a Maryland committee would counter with Federal Relief Administrator Harry Hopkins on the subject later this month. The committee includes Senators Tydings and Radcliffe. Also reported, William F. Hovis of Avalon Avenue reported the larceny of six white leghorn hens and one rooster.
