First American for 19 years to be hanged in Nassau
In Fos Hill Prison at sunrise on Tuesday, Michlah Shobek a 22 year old Milwaukee man who admitted killing three tourists will be executed by hanging. His mother Juanita Spencer declined to attend and has appealed to President Ford for clemency, while Milwaukee lawyers say a presidential counsel would forward the appeal. Shobek was convicted of the January 1974 stabbing death of Irwin Borstein and confessed to slayings of Paul Howell and Katie Smoimh W during a two month crime spree. The last U S executions in the islands dated back to 1901.

Union reports progress in GM Chrysler talks
DETROIT AP negotiators for the United Auto Workers say they are making progress in contract talks with Chrysler and General Motors. Subcommittee meetings Saturday produced cautious optimism with talks resuming Sunday. Chrysler’s William O’Brien said the company is satisfied with progress toward a three year agreement covering about 104000 hourly workers and 9160 salaried employees in the U S and Canada. UAW Vice President Douglas Fraser said the pace is satisfactory but will intensify toward settlement. Chairman Thomas A Murphy said he hopes to move toward the Ford-patterned agreement reached after a 28 day strike.
