Whiting Found Guilty In 1934 Maryland Slaying
Charles E. Whiting, 35, a Black man, was found guilty in Frederick, Maryland, of first degree murder in the July 2, 1934 killing of Flossie Barton, also Black, near Doubs. He was sentenced to life imprisonment after a jury rejected capital punishment. Whiting fled after the shooting and was captured months later in New York. Testimony said he was named father of Barton’s baby and shot her during a visit to have her sign a paper.

George T. Starner 50 a noted local candy salesman residing on West Howard street was found dead in the basement of B M Womack on Brown avenue after visiting the home to store dahlia roots for winter.
