Collins Shives wedding ties two Maryland families in 1960s ceremony

The marriage of Catherine Viola Shives daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard Shives Sr Rt 1 Meiversburg Pa and David Earl Collins son of Mr and Mrs Robert Collins 185 Virginia Ave took place Saturday October 5 at St Josephs Catholic Church. The Rev Joseph Davies officiated the nuptial service. The bride designed her own white satin gown with embroidered center panel and detachable chapel train. A floor length illusion veil and a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and ivy completed the attire. Nancy Weller acted as maid of honor with bridesmaids Mrs Audrey Barron and Janet Collins. Best man, groom’s brother Daniel Collins. groomsmen, Larry Stockslager and final Shives. After a Skyline Drive tour the couple will reside at 4710 Virginia Ave. The bride is a James Buchanan High School 1987 graduate and beauty school graduate employed at Lady Curl Beauty Salon. The groom, South Hagerstown High School 1963 graduate, works at Two Guys Discount Department Store. A separate engagement notice for Sharon Elizabeth Davis to Sp 4 Lloyd Calvin Kelley was announced. Kelley is U S Army Vietnam bound. The couple has not set a wedding date.

Welcome Wagon Fall Dinner Dance Plans in Hagerstown

Members of the Evening Group of the Welcome Wagon Newcomers Club schedule a fall dinner dance for Friday October 25 at Fountain Head Country Club. Co chairs Regis Mahoney and Robert Thies oversee ticketing with director Charles M. LeFew. guests include former Newcomers and new residents. Cocktails start at seven followed by dinner and dancing to The Imperials.

Former Resident Noted Artist In Sykesville

Patricia Winson, granddaughter of Leon and Borger, of 95 Nottingham Rd, is a Sykesville resident and acclaimed artist. She began painting as a child with little formal training, won several prizes, and recently exhibited at the Fells Point Fo o Festival in Sykesville. A Hagerstown native, she opened a studio in Sykesville and aims to teach art locally. She is a devoted homemaker with husband Elroy, and four children. Her mother, Mrs. Bette Reed, is a former Hagerstown resident.

Zonta Club Holds First Social Meet in Hagerstown

The Hagerstown Zonta Club gathered at Venice Restaurant for its first social of the year. Speaker Jack Wrooger, administrator of Cedar Ridge Children's Home, described the home and its progress with caring house parents. Mrs. Drooger attended as a guest. The club plans to dedicate proceeds from the Annual Spring Ball to Cedar Ridge, with details still in planning.

Church Class Holds Covered Dish Supper

The Futelity Class of St Paul United Methodist Church held a covered dish supper in the church auditorium with Halloween decorations. After a prayer led by president Hazel Anderson, supper was served to the class teacher Mrs Cochrane and 26 guests.

The Ringgold Ruritan Club met at the Ringgold Community Center. Officers elected were Wayne Warrenfeltz president Harold Grossntchie vice president Larry Bayer secretary Mark Frey treasurer. Directors named C H Huff and Ralph Sterling. An oyster and ham supper is planned for October 12. John R Martin spoke on 4 H Clubs with demonstrations by Nancy Frey and Steve Martha.

Sharpsburgs Oldest Church Celebrates 200th Anniversary

Sharpsburg marks the 200th anniversary of Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church founded in 1768. A month of services features speakers Rev. John Aurand, Rev. Tierbert Jones, and Rev. Martin L. Rothenberger, with a 7:40 p.m. final Reformation service. The church site, purchased for a pepper corn, has hosted congregations since colonial times and endured Civil War shelling and hospital use.

Norland Garden Club Opens Third Flower Show in Chambersburg

The Norland Garden Club announces its third flower and garden show themed A Touch of Yesterday and a Bit of Tadsy. It runs Tuesday October 15 from 3 to 9 30 p.m. and Wednesday October 16 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chambersburg Recreation Center 235 South Third Street. General show chairmen are Mrs Harold Brake and co chairwoman Mrs Kendall Keller with numerous design classes judged for tri color and creativity. Junior exhibits and educational displays by local groups supplement the main show with topics from Conservation to Weeds in Your Garden.
