Washington Oct 12 Five percent victory tax on individual earnings above $614 yearly will stay in the war financing measure. Senate Finance Chairman George and Democratic Leader Barkley said revenue must be ample, with conferees to meet soon to reconcile House and Senate versions. The tax is expected to raise roughly 3.1 to 3.6 billion annually, with debates over related taxes and rebates continuing.

Three Convicts Escape From Roxbury Penal Farm
Three inmates escaped Sunday from the State Penal Farm at Roxbury and were sighted heading toward Boonsboro on Route 40 before dark. Supervising official Elmer St. Maxwell identified the escapees as Paul Kuratobac, 22, burglary sentence from Baltimore. John Brown, 22, burglary sentence from Baltimore. and Thomas Roderick, 30, formerly of Towson. Kuratobac is 5 feet 7¼ inches tall, 131 pounds. Brown 5 feet 0 inches, 125 pounds. Roderick 5 feet 5 inches, 138 pounds.

Autoist Is Given Sentence In Jail
Edgar Lee Wilson of Hagerstown pleaded guilty to failing to stop at a collision and was sentenced to four months in jail from his commitment date September 25 by Judge Watson R. Davison in Franklin County Court. Parole may be sought after 60 days if damages to the other car are settled. State Trooper Cullen testified Wilson drove to Hagerstown without stopping after a collision south of Greencastle on September 26. Wilson told the district attorney he is prepared to pay damages when the other car is repaired.

Two Injured in Accidents In Washington County
A four year old boy Eddie Moler and a 37 year old Leonard L. Nicodemus were injured in weekend auto accidents. Nicodemus was found unconscious along Route 11 near Halfway and taken to Washington County Hospital with a crushed arm, broken shoulder, cuts and possible skull fracture. State Officer Harry Holsinger and County Investigator Wayne Sellman investigated. Nicodemus could not be interviewed due to condition. Patrolman James Ray reported ongoing inquiry.

In Paw Paw Michigan state police and sheriff units set a roadblock after Erving White a 35 year old creamery operator reported a car carrying the desperado Roger Touhy and four or five companions threatened him with a tommy gun near the town at 5 am. White said one man wore a holstered pistol and he followed the fleeing vehicle which appeared to be having motor trouble. The trail has not yet been located but officers deem it a hot tip and continue searches for the Illinois fugitives.
