The Washington County Council Boy Scouts of America will host the third annual Father and Son Dinner in the Fairgrounds exhibition hall on October 15 at 6:36 PM. F. H. Robertson leads the committee arranging an engaging program with ample food and an aviation themed keynote by Colonel J. H. Jouett of Fairchild Aviation Corporation, noted scout supporter and West Point alumnus.
Col John K Jouett led Army in a dramatic 22 to 9 win over Navy, turning a perceived defeat into glory with his aviation expertise and wartime service. Major Byron and others backed a standout performance as Jouett, famed for China service and Chinese Order of the Flowery Jade, was highlighted amid preparations for a Boy Scout oat toast indoors with Father attendance and Scout tickets 50 cents.
The Y M C A in Hagerstown reports extensive renovations across its lobby gymnasium second floor and kitchen areas. Upgrades include new furniture, relined courts, cleaned pool and mats, repainted lockers and rest rooms, and a planned open house in November to showcase the changes and activities.

LITCHFIELD ILL Oct 12 Rev L A Crown whose worst sin contest drew hundreds nationwide said the abuse of high privilege is the world’s most horrible sin. He awarded the prize to Lizzie Largest, a middle aged Union Avenue Christian Church member, after noting her view aligned with his. Crown cited 300 local responses and 500 from 32 states and Canada, with ingratitude, slander, kidnapping, drunkenness and other vices named.
Two Antioch College coeds Margaret Walden of Newtonville Massachusetts and Harriet Rendall of Cleveland Heights Ohio were killed when their car left the highway and struck a telephone pole near Caledonia Saturday morning. Myers said they were en route to New York City for summer jobs.
A five act high class vaudeville will be staged in the Main Exhibition Hall of the Hagerstown Fairgrounds over three nights next week. Sponsored by the Hagerstown Police Department, proceeds will aid emergency charity cases during winter. Detective William Peters will MC the show with a fraternal band accompanying. The event aims to help poverty relief in the city. In Cumberland Md, Mrs Teresa Porter 43 was fatally shot in her kitchen by a .22 rifle while her husband repaired it. authorities deem the shooting accidental.
San Francisco October 12. H Guidotti a 26 year old dairy milker failed to win his accident claim before the California industrial accident commission after experts testified a cow cannot kick backwards. He had argued he was kicked by a cow while standing behind her. veterinarians testified cows can kick sideways or forward but not backwards.
Charles J. Ridge Jr formerly of near Hagerstown re enlisted in the Army Air Corps after a successful thyroid operation. He is stationed at Mitchell Field Long Island and credits Army surgeons and the Medical Department for his care. Ridge had enlisted locally and speaks highly of the service he received.
Mrs. John Yeagy of the 100 block East Washington street was struck by an automobile early last night at Washington and Mulberry Streets. She sustained cuts and head lacerations. treatment given at Washington County Hospital.
Otis Knight of Beaumont Texas, 35, pleaded guilty to stealing clothing from Charles Rodeniser on North Mulberry Street and received six months in the House of Correction from Judge C E Heard on Sunday. Knight was arrested by Lieutenant J F Desmond. Soldiers Killed in Bogota Train Crash
In Weymouth Massachusetts on October 12 detectives hunted for the head and torso of Grayce Asquith a 40 year old widow slain in her cottage. Investigators searched Whitman Pond while a diver waded the water and police described a heavy set man about 40 as a visitor to the home on September 1.
