Rioters and burglars sentenced by Judge McLaughlin today
Six Maryland Correctional Training Center inmates were sentenced by Circuit Court Judge D K McLaughlin for riot related assaults. Edward Watts received five years for assault with intent to maim, four others got three year terms, with some concurrent sentences and suspended terms for good behavior. Additional sentences included three years for breaking and entering and two years for rogues and vagabonds. Other defendants received one year for larceny and one year for breaking and entering in Washington County Jail terms. An appeal sentence for Donald Myers was set at 90 days with work time pending payment of bills. Judge McLaughlin noted few rioters were identified but expressed confidence in witness testimony.

Man Convicted For Failing To Get Permit
Charles Kirkpatrick of Rea Hii Rd. was found guilty in a magistrate court today of not obtaining a permit for a sewage system on his mobile home Tet. He paid a fine of $26.45 and will appeal to the circuit court. Nelson C. Tillou, Washington County sanitarian, told the court he was asked to leave the premises. Robert Kines of 199 Berkson Ave was found guilty in magistrate court for stealing a Colt 45 Western gun holster and ten 45 cal bullets. He received six months in a state correctional institution per the corrections superintendent. Emerson M Bowman owner of the pistol and Detective George L Clark investigated. Kines pleaded innocent claiming he took the gun to prevent harm. Magistrate Noel Spence noted the question of motive. Elmer F Mongan of Rt 2 Boonsboro was sentenced to 30 days in Washington County Jail for escaping a courthouse work detail after pleading guilty. Luther Johnson Jr of Ft Ritchie was found innocent of malicious destruction of property to Ingram's Men’s Shop. He pleaded innocent.
