Ford finds campaign trail thornier than Rose Garden
President Ford on a week long campaign tour faced student heckling at the University of Southern California and came under fire for a debated Eastern Europe remark. Carter and Mondale labeled the statement a blunder while Ford backed U S support for independence in Eastern Europe and pledged to reveal the names of firms involved in Arab boycotts. Ford also toured the Lockwell plant in Los Angeles and attended a $1000 per person GOP fundraiser with Ronald Reagan.
