Firemen Elect Officers at Cumberland Valley Meeting
Hagerstown was chosen to host the next Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association meeting. Captain George L. Fisher, a veteran firefighter, was elected second vice-president. Willem J. Rupp of Middleburg was named president, with RL Grey vacating the chair. Other officers include James J. Connors first vice president, BR Montgomery third vice president, C. I. Jacobs secretary, W H Richter treasurer, and Rev. A. S. Poisell reelected chaplain. The date will be set by Hagerstown fire companies. The group also formed a committee to coordinate a new insignia purchase.

The association’s assets stood at 540 in cash and thrift stamps, with life insurance increased from 30 to 60 for duty-related death in the resolution adopted at the meeting.

Dark Queen Crowned With Brick By King
In Birmingham Alabama on October 6 the police court fined both parties five dollars each after an argument over a man led the King to crown Queen Victoria with a brick. The contestants, Victoria Gales and King Woofing, both colored, faced the court.

Appeals Hear Whisky Case In Annapolis Court
Walter Stevenson William Ward and Lloyd Reynolds were convicted of selling whisky at the May term. The Court of Appeals in Annapolis heard arguments yesterday and will issue rulings later. They received three months in jail and fines. Represented by Hartle Sweeney and Waehster for the defense, State’s Arie strong led the prosecution. Ten gallons mash set off a fowl spree in Nashua as poultry mobbed the yard, geese ducks and ganders swarming to the mash.
