AP Automotive Editor reports October production may fall about 96,000 cars and trucks from September while demand for new autos remains weak. Dealers hold large used-car inventories, prompting aggressive discounts and higher trade-in allowances as buyers seek bargains.
The Senate Agriculture Committee faces a tough task on farm prices after a day of stalemate votes. The committee was instructed to return with a plan within 48 hours. Democratic Leader Lucas said the Senate would act at this session, aiming to hold up prices on major crops despite divided votes.

Paris Oct. The cabinet spokesman said Premier Henri Queuille has effectively resigned after a ministers meeting failed to break a stalemate over wages and prices. Queuille was to meet President Vincent Aurial later today to discuss his resignation.
Affidavits by two jurors recount threatening letters and calls since Hiss was acquitted. His counsel filed to move the trial to Rutland U S District Court arguing heavy prejudice in the Southern District of New York would prevent a fair trial.

Despite fatigue and leg cramps they anticipate a possible week longer flight and expect to land on Columbus Day October 12 after seven straight weeks aloft in a four by four and a half mile airspace.

Yakima Washington October 5 United States Supreme Court Justice William O Douglas is showing continued improvement after an injury during a mountain ride. Dr Joseph H Low one of his physicians said last night the 50 year old justice is markedly improved.
