U S Wounded Copter Downed in Fierce Vietnam Fight

U S aircraft were shot down near Da Nang as helicopters evacuated wounded and two crewmen survived a crash. Ground action by the 196th Light Infantry Brigade followed enemy fire, with four Americans dead and more wounded. A Skyhawk and a Navy ship also reported losses in the escalating posteam battles over North Vietnam.

Nixon Promises to End Bureaucratic Regulation, NYT Reports

New York Times Washington dateline reports that Richard Nixon promised readers in the securities industry he would end what he calls Johnson administration heavy handed regulatory schemes. Alan Greenspan said the letter carries the full force of a formal policy statement and was signed by Nixon but not made public. The letter denounces legislation compelling mutual funds to lower charges as rate fixing in a highly competitive industry.
