Wilhelm Muhlenbroich, 40, pleaded guilty in Redwood City Superior Court to kidnapping three year old Marc De Tristan Jr. He sought immediate sentencing but Judge Maxwell McNutt delayed to appoint lawyers and ensure rights. Sentencing set for Friday to avoid rushed judgment.

In Detroit, Oct 2, a deadly office shooting at Wayne County Common Pleas Judge Robert E. Rape's chambers left one man dead, two wounded. Sage, 41, a former prizefighter, opened fire during a dispute over a sports park partnership. Ralph Nadel, 48, was killed and Al Neulell, 48, wounded, while attorney Morris Smiley, 56, was hit in the shoulder. A search for Sage failed to locate him.
In Montgomery Alabama on October 2 a flying cadet witnessed an instructor crash to his death after a spinning army plane. The student R M Smith from Stamford Conn later told superiors that Second Lieutenant E T Ostler saved his life before perishing. Ostler from Sands Utah stayed with the aircraft to ensure the student cleared away safely but died when he leaped. Smith played football for Lehigh University in 1829.
The account describes a training accident at the Southeast Air Center Basic Training School where instructor Ostler, 25, was teaching a cadet to recover a ship from spins at 6,000 feet. The aircraft failed to respond, leading to a fatal crash the third at the facility and bringing fatalities to five since opening a month ago.
