Curtis Woman Is Acquitted Of Manslaughter
Daisy Curtis a colored woman was found not guilty of manslaughter by jury in circuit court. She was accused of striking John Gross a colored man with a glass jar at her West Church Street home last June. Gross died two days later from pneumonia allegedly caused by his injuries. The defense argued self defense after Gross invaded her kitchen and attacked her. The State claimed Gross was struck as he entered the home and denied an assault. Two men, Leroy Brown and Fred Taskens, were present in the Curtis residence during the incident. The accused was represented by D. K. McLaughlin.
