Duchess of the San Quentin Gang Is Executed in Gas Chamber
Evileta Juanita Spinelli, known as the Duchess, led a San Francisco gang that killed a member to silence him. She faced execution at San Quentin after the Sherrard murder, praying with her daughter’s photo strapped to her chest as guards strapped her to the chair. Sixty spectators watched the eleven minute process. Next Friday two more gang members, Mike Simeone and Gordon Hawking, are scheduled for death. Albert Ives remains in an insane asylum.

Susanville Calif Nov 22 A 24 year old Cleo Springs Oklahoma man Alexander is guarded in jail after admitting he derailed the Southern Pacific City of San Francisco near Harney Nevada on Aug 12 1939 with intent to rob passengers. He says he fled after hearing screams. The Interstate Commerce Commission noted missing angle bars and a wrench used to loosen rails. Sheriff Johnson and FBI questioned him.
