Washington reports show House leaders abandoned hopes the rules committee will allow a vote on the administration wage and hour bill at the special session. A petition to force floor action reached 139 signatures as the session opened amid calls to cut tax burdens on business and revise undistributed profits and capital gains taxes.
Nineteen criminal cases are scheduled for trial Monday the first day of November, including all non-support and paternity matters. The court announced that removed cases are booked for December 6. The James Thompson murder trial is set for the latter part of next week. Thompson, 65, is charged with fatally stabbing Albert Dixon.
Weather forecast from the U S Weather Bureau indicates generally fair and colder conditions in Maryland with east portions milder. Snow flurries and colder air expected in the west tonight and Sunday. Chesapeake Bay region remains partly cloudy to clear and cold tonight and Sunday with lowest temps near 25 degrees and fresh to strong northwest winds, easing Monday.
The outlook calls for generally fair conditions in the North and Middle Atlantic states on Monday and Tuesday. Rain is expected in the south and rain or snow across the north on Wednesday and again toward the end of the week. Cold Monday followed by warmer Tuesday and Wednesday, with near normal temperatures for the rest of the week.
Treasury agents across the nation arrested 21 suspected narcotics traffickers tied to a $750,000 annual operation. 17 importers and major dealers linked to the Hip Sing tong were seized after a six month probe. Seizures occurred in New York Boston Chicago and San Francisco ending with arraignments for those detained.

New York November 20 Indians who sold Manhattan Island to the Dutch for 24 dollars say they will buy it back at the original price and add 610 boot. The offer followed a pow wow where 17 tribes danced and Chief Clear Sky of the Mohawk spoke of the palefaces buying and the island’s improvements.

A company executive announced reopening Monday for those who wish to return, while shop committeemen prepared to place pickets to halt resumption of work. Clifton C. Slusser said plants would reopen for all who want to return.
About 200 Washington Council Boy Scouts from eight troops joined searches near Hagerstown for Eva Russell a 42 year old hotel clerk missing since Tuesday afternoon. Scouts were assigned in groups of six to eight to cover a wide area following a description. a friend reported seeing her three hours after she left the hotel in a trolley waiting shed at South Potomac and Pope avenues.

Baltimore November 20 P Five years after a small dark robber with a shave threatened trolley motorman Robert Larkins and stole $7 another similar suspect menaced Larkins early today taking 37 dollars and 67 cents. It was not the same robber.
A trolley wire cable in the second block of South Potomac Street broke this morning causing a slight traffic delay. Several trolleys were rerouted to restore service.
In Leonardtown Maryland Captain William Thrall of the Maryland Conservation Commission said his boat The Kent stopped a dawn chase of about 15 small power boats scraping for oysters in the Potomac. Gunfire followed with a machine gun return fire. One boat occupied by Sheldon Crockett 59 and Preston Pruitt 25 Tangier Island Virginia was captured. Hand scrapes are prohibited in the Potomac.
Walter W. Esmer, superintendent of the Orphans' Home at San Mar, fractured an ankle in a fall in the furnace room of his home several days ago. The injury will incapacitate him for about six weeks.
Williamsport firemen were called out early to subdue a small blaze on the Renner farm beyond Kemps Mill. The fire started in a chimney of the farmhouse but caused no damage and was quickly controlled. Charles Rowland rents the farm.
W Edward Heimel well known deputy clerk of court underwent a hernia operation at Washington County Hospital last night. He was reported today as on the road to recovery.
Washington, Nov 29. The Federal Trade Commission arranged quick compliance with a presidential order to investigate rising living costs. Chairman Ayres summoned commissioners to discuss the scope. The inquiry, likely to extend into months, aims for a report early in 1938.
Washington reports postmasters warned against mailing live snakes after many sightings. Assistant Postmaster General Harllee Branch ordered strict refusal of any parcel containing five snakes. In Baltimore, light snow flurries marked the season’s arrival, melting on impact.
A reporter probes what happened to President Roosevelt's extracted tooth with three theories offered. Navy officer Yando pulled the tooth. Dr. McIntire recalls the event but claims no knowledge of the tooth's fate. Smithsonian denies comment as secrecy surrounds the mystery.

The gathering, hosted by Boonshore Fire Company, featured a banquet and talks by Mr. Webb of the American Water Works, Mayor Richard G. Hawken, and State Senator Ernest W. Miller. The next formal election and installation are set for December 17 at Maugansville.
Marcellus Swain the Boonsboro high school student son of Mr and Mrs Howard Swain of near Sharpsburg remains hospitalized at Washington County Hospital. He is reported to be improving after sustaining a broken right leg and broken right arm from an angry bull injury.
Shanghai Nov 20 A Japanese army spokesman said fifteen soldiers under a second lieutenant captured Soechow, keystone of China's Hindenburg line, without firing a shot. The fall was described as one of the most amazing captures in war annals as Chinese resistance appeared minimal and the government withdrew from Nanking.
Approximately 40 persons were injured and an unidentified negro was killed when a Norfolk and Western passenger train derailed near Bluefield West Virginia. Two passenger coaches and two baggage cars left the rails with one coach sliding down a bank toward the Bluestone River while the others overturned across the tracks. The cause was not determined. Ambulances and private autos aided the injured passengers.

SNANKING Nov 20. The Chinese government formally announced moving the capital to Chungking in Szechwan province, while pledging to resist Japan to the last man. Evacuation of ministries has begun, with offices to be dispersed inland within a week as equipment is dismantled and moved.
Monroe district court sentenced Rev. George H. Dierlam a roving Congregationalist minister aged 47 to 20 months to five years in prison after a conviction for carnal knowledge of his 15 year old former secretary. The jury deliberated 21 minutes after the girl testified he betrayed her while she served as secretary and housekeeper in his home.
Secretary Treasurer Frank Morrison announced that the American Federation of Labor now has 3,441,340 members as of November 19. The gain totals 1,000,754 above the average membership for the fiscal year ending August 31, 1936, covering 104 local, national and international unions affiliated with the AFL.
Harvard seniors studied the Antietam campaign in a military history lecture at Cambridge led by Major Joseph W. Byron. The class used maps and newspaper images from before a local Antietam celebration to describe the start of the campaign and the battle at Sharpsburg.
