Undertaker Admits Cramming Coffins in Newark Scandal
A judge ordered gravesites reopened after funeral director Richard Iacobucci admitted cramming bodies of 160 poor people into coffins, with up to 11 infants per coffin. Iacobucci, operator of Gunther Funeral Home, faced 163 counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and has a suspended license. Disinterments and reburials will be funded by Iacobucci and supervised by the state Board of Mortuary Sciences, to begin by month’s end. trial date pending on criminal charges.
