Supreme Court hears TVA power case from utilities
Washington November 16 government counsel told the Supreme Court that 14 utility companies have no right to challenge the Tennessee Valley Authority power program. TVA counsel said competition from municipalities and cooperatives is not legal injury. Justices debated the utilities right to sue and whether the government could build dams to manufacture and sell power while TVA argued power production was incidental to navigation flood control and national defense.

Hunters Find Plenty Game in Washington Allegany Co Mills
Washington and Allegany counties saw a bountiful opening to the hunting season with many hunters in Hancock reporting rabbits and birds. A Hancock group from the State Game Refuge near Pearre bagged 31 rabbits, 10 quail and 3 grouse, with J L Schlosser of Baltimore taking a wild turkey in Allegany. Harry Brining of Hancock bagged a 20 pound wild turkey, among other successes by local sportsmen. Deputy clerks issued licenses in large numbers as season totals rose to 3511 by midafternoon, approaching the 4000 record. sales exceeded 1937 figures for that year’s end count.
